CEDAC's Executive Director at The 13th World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates

The 13th World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates was held in Warsaw, Poland from 12 to 23 October 2013 and this is the first time the summit has been held in central Eastern Europe.

The summit, first launched in Rome in 2000, has become amongst the key events for the discussion of democratic values, peace and freedom. The event also celebrates the significance of all human beings working together for the sake of peace and humanity.

This year’s summit focused on a number of challenges to peace under the motto is “Stand in solidarity for peace - time to act”.

The summit also provided each Nobel Peace Laureate with the opportunity to share their unique experiences. In this way the Laureates are able to show how their works and actions can be used as an example in the hope that others can bring peace to in their own societies and around the world.

Since 2007, the summit has involved thousands of young people through student participation at the summits events. In conjunction with this Nobel Peace Laureates visit secondary schools and universities during the days of the event. This year, as a means to encourage youth participation at the summit, special practical meetings with students, youth activists and the Nobel Peace Laureates’ organisation were organised. The meetings aimed at bringing concrete knowledge to young people through giving examples and practical solutions from the field. The meetings focused on various topics including nonviolence, no wars, human rights, social business, conflict resolution, disarmament, social activism, and other topics requested by participating Laureates.
